Hollywood’s biggest night comprised of the commentary and celebrity fashion with surprise moments, winners of the Awards and red carpet extravaganza.

This year’s Oscars were set to be a charged event with diversity and inclusion on display. The question was how many can “la la land” actually won, in terms of the awards. There were 14 nominations of the film, and going with the record it became quite disruptive for the critics on social media. It was in close competition with the art house favorite “Moonlight”.

The 89th Annual Academy Awards held on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre Hollywood. Jimmy Kimmel hosted the event which started at 5:30 p.m with an electric performance from Justin Timberlake. Meryl Streep got a standing ovation afterwards and then the best supporting actor nominees were announced by the last year winner Alicia Vikander. And the Oscar goes to….Mahershala Ali for his performance in the film Moonlight. This was his first Oscar. He thanked his wife and newborn baby girl in his acceptance speech. He is also the first Muslim actor to win an Oscar.

The event then moved further with “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them” winning it for best costume design and “Suicide Squad” for Best Makeup & Hairstyling. At 6:10 a.m, best documentary feature nominees were announced in which OJ made in America won the best documentary feature, accompanied with NASA legend Katherine Johnson.

Half an hour later the president of Academy Award Cheryl Boone Issacs greeted the nominees and Sylvain Bellemare wins Best Sound Editing for “Arrival”. “Hacksaw Ridge” won for the Best Sound Mixing; it also won its second one for Film Editing. Voila Davis wins for the Best Supporting Actress for her performance in “Fences”. Iranian film, “The Salesman” won the Best Foreign Language Film. And a short movie “Piper” wins the Best Animated Short.

“Zootopia” was presented an Oscar for the Best Animated Feature Category and the director talks about Trump border wall. Movie “La La Land” won first Oscar for Best Production Design, second one for Best Cinematography, third one for Best Musical Score, another one for Best Original Song- City of Stars announced by Scarlett Johansson and Best Director Damien Chazelle. It was his first one and he is the youngest to receive the award. Oscar for Best Visual Effects went to “The Jungle Book” which was announced by Pakistani actors Riz Ahmed and Felicity Jones. “White Helmets” for Best Documentary and “Sing” for Best Live Action Short.

Jennifer Aniston paid Tribute to 9 Hollywood actors who have died over the year. Best Original Screenplay & Casey Affleck won for the best actor for Manchester by the Sea. “Moonlight” won for the Best Adapted Screenplay by the 5 time Oscar nominee Amy Adams. Academy Award Winner Leonardo DiCaprio announced the winner for Best Actress- Emma Stone.
